Baggage at the Door Reading in NYC March 14

The new musical Baggage at the Door by Dana Aber will have a reading of its newest mainstage draft at AMT Theater in Times Square on Tuesday March 14 at 7pm. AMT is the newest Off-Broadway theatre in New York City, perfectly situated on 354 W. 48th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues. AMT Theater is committed to the development of new works, and is graciously sponsoring the reading of Baggage at the Door in hopes of its future full production at the same theater.

The themes within Baggage at the Door are more timely than ever, as post-pandemic anxieties and “fear of normal”—aka FONO—are world-wide issues prompting hard-look conversations at how we manage the aftershocks of horrific life-events (trauma).

She seems perfectly fine, put-together and confident, striding through her colorful big city life — but beneath that sunny surface insidious terrors from her past tear at her carefully structured facade and threaten to dismantle her. Monsters without and within, video game heroes, triggering soundscapes, original songs written in collaboration with award-winning emerging composers, the new musical Baggage at the Door captures post-pandemic anxieties and mental health challenges while focusing on one woman’s struggle to disrupt cycles of spiraling self-sabotage. Courage and hope confront fear and trauma at the doorway to new possibilities in this sometimes serious and often comical journey.

The reading is free and open to the public, but reservations are required, through an RSVP to BigThunderNYC@gmail.com.
